Early this morning in Lawrence, a juvenile was shot and is now in critical condition, after what appears to have been a car break-in gone wrong. FOX 59 reports that before 3:30 a.m., Lawrence Police Department officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of Chensford Drive on the report of a person shot.
Upon their arrival, officers found a male juvenile with a gunshot wound, who was then taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The suspected shooter was alerted by his girlfriend to someone breaking into his car, which led to him firing the weapon. Other juveniles fled the scene, and authorities are still working to confirm their ages. The shooter stayed and is said to be cooperating with investigators, as per WISH -TV report.
As investigations are still ongoing, minimal additional information has been released so far. Police have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the community, as noted by WTHR.
