Commuters in Lawrence should brace for some traffic disruptions starting mid-April, as the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) embarks on the Pendleton Pike Progress project. According to the information available on the City of Lawrence's website, the construction will necessitate the closure of eastbound 56th Street at Pendleton Pike to realign the road to optimize traffic flow.
The scheduled road closure is to begin on April 15 and will continue until June 30. During this period, drivers are advised to use the alternative routes that will be clearly marked by roadside detour signs. Following the signed detour route, although will add minutes to commutes, it will ensure the uninterrupted access to neighborhoods and businesses that line 56th Street.
INDOT's initiative is seen as a necessary step to improve infrastructure and safety in the area, which has seen an increase in both traffic volume and incidents in recent years. The agency has expressed its commitment to minimizing disruptions and completing the project promptly to restore normal traffic conditions as soon as possible.
Residents and travelers wishing to stay informed on the project's progress or any further traffic-related updates can visit INDOT’s official website or follow their social media channels.
