A fatal collision this morning on US 31 in Westfield, Hamilton County, resulted in the death of one person and the hospitalization of another. The crash caused a significant shutdown of the highway's northbound lanes, according to reports from FOX59.
Westfield Police received notification of the crash, involving a semi and a passenger vehicle, around 6:50 a.m. near the 161st Street exit, with the preliminary investigation revealing that the passenger car was southbound before it abruptly crossed the median entering the northbound traffic lane, and in the ensuing collision the car's driver was killed while the semi's operator sustained non-fatal injuries, traffic due to this tragic sequence of events is being redirected off at the 161st Street exit, diverting west to Oakridge Road, north to State Road 32 and then back east to US 31.
As detailed by a WTHR report, the northbound closure of US 31 is expected to last several hours as the Westfield Police Department's Crash Team investigates the circumstances of the crash, offering the somber reminder that "Any loss of life is devasting, and our thoughts are with those who were involved," as conveyed by Westfield PD Captain Billy Adams.
WISHTV echoed this sentiment, noting the diligent efforts of the Crash Team to investigate and provide answers.
