In an effort to mitigate the issue of lost and stolen personal transport items, the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) has launched a new initiative, a free registration program for strollers and bike trailers. This program supplements the existing bike registration service offered by the department.
The program's primary aim is to reconcile owners with their lost or stolen items. As per SLCPD, every year, there are several unclaimed strollers, bikes, and trailers that are stored in accordance to department policy as unclaimed property. The registration process, which is free of charge, is designed as a straightforward procedure to help protect residents' property.
According to SLCPD, "Registering your bike, stroller, or bike trailer is an important step in protecting your property." These items are valuable and frequently targeted by thieves. Registration not only aids officers, detectives, and SLCPD staff in promptly identifying item ownership but also heightens the probability of retrieval.
The decision to integrate strollers and bike trailers into the registry was prompted by the Central Patrol Division command staff at SLCPD, who observed an uptick in stroller thefts and perceived an essential need for more efficient recovery strategies. The community can access the registration service through a link or QR code provided in the department’s flyer.
