Authorities are intensifying efforts to locate Darrell Voelz, a 62-year-old man from Bartholomew County who went missing following severe floods that swept through central Indiana. The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office, leading the search, expressed concern for Voelz, who was last believed to be at his cabin near the Driftwood River. According to FOX59, the cabin is situated along the 5000 block of N. 250 W.
Despite initial efforts by emergency personnel to pinpoint Voelz's location, details provided were insufficient to secure an immediate rescue. Information was scarce; a caller knew only a rough description of where Voelz was staying, lacking the granularity of a precise address. Following the report, search teams combed through the residences in the area, as detailed by The Republic. Regrettably, their efforts were not fruitful in locating the missing man.
The mystery of Voelz's whereabouts took a grim turn when a welfare check by deputies uncovered the remains of his cabin. As flood waters receded, what was revealed were the charred remnants of the primitive structure, which suggested that a fire had broken out at some point during the flooding. "The dwelling is believed to have burned to the water level at that time, then was covered by the increasing flood water," The Republic report further elaborates. The subsequent search operations, initially impeded by high waters, had overlooked the submerged ruins.
