Authorities are conducting an investigation after a cadaver dog and officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) found what are believed to be human remains on the city's east side. The discovery was made today around 10:21 a.m. near Lexington Avenue and South Irvington Avenue, according to a report by FOX59.
The site of the unsettling find is located in a neighborhood that is situated off Brookville Road, in close proximity to a USPS warehouse and a CSX train yard. IMPD officers were dispatched to the scene upon receiving a tip that possible human remains had been found. This information has not only been confirmed by WISH-TV but also by other sources closely following the matter.
The involvement of a cadaver dog, a trained canine adept at detecting the scent of decomposing bodies, suggests that the remains had been in the area for a significant period of time. The IMPD says that the official determination on whether the remains are human, and consequently the cause and manner of death, will fall under the purview of the Marion County Coroner's Office, noted WTHR.
The ongoing investigation is poised to further elucidate the circumstances surrounding the discovery. The IMPD have yet to release additional details regarding the identity of the remains or the suspected cause of death.
