A tragic incident unfolded at Grantsville Reservoir in Tooele County, where one person has been confirmed dead and another is still missing. The Tooele County Sheriff's Office received a distress call shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Friday, bringing to light the gravity of the situation as two individuals encountered severe difficulty in the water after their raft capsized. FOX13 reported that the pair had been struggling to swim.
Attempts to rescue the individuals were quickly mobilized. As reported by ABC4, "responders were told that two bystanders used a kayak to retrieve one man from the water." Unfortunately, despite swift actions, attempting a resuscitation on the man was unresponsive and ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, according to deputies, as well as cooperation from multiple emergency services.
The search for the second victim stretched into the night with deputies maintaining a presence at the reservoir. This prompted officials to reach out to the community: "We are asking the public to avoid the area to allow search and rescue and dive teams to work without obstruction," as stated in a release by the sheriff's office and noted by KUTV. The efforts have thus far reported no other injuries connected to the incident.
