Heads up, drivers! Starting tomorrow morning, commuters who frequent 56th Street should brace for some disruptions. The westbound lane at the intersection with German Church Road (also known as Sunnyside Road) is shutting down due to utility repairs. The closure kicks in at 8:00 a.m., so plan your routes accordingly.
For those of you who usually cruise along this stretch, expect a detour. Traffic will be redirected around the work zone located near 5625 Sunnyside Rd. Signs will guide you, but let's keep it safe out there and heed to them, shall we? Extra caution is never amiss when you're negotiating a work zone, and a little patience can go a long way towards keeping everyone out of harm's way.
The city has promised to hustle on the repairs and reduce the headaches for motorists as much as possible. According to the City of Lawrence's announcement, they "appreciate your patience" and pledge to complete the work "as quickly and safely as possible."
Now, while detours can be a drag, they're often a sign of progress or maintenance that keeps our roads in tiptop shape. So while your journey might take a bit longer, remember that it's all in the name of infrastructure that, quite literally, keeps us moving. Stay tuned to local traffic updates for the latest, and don't let this small bump in the road throw off your groove.
