Starting Tuesday next week, the Winslow/High/Rogers roundabout in Bloomington will close for 45 days for maintenance and safety upgrades. The closure, lasting through July 14, affects the intersection of East Winslow and East Rogers roads with South High Street.

As per the City of Bloomington website, upgrades include resurfacing, sidewalk ramp improvements, and the installation of median islands to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The project is part of broader improvements along Winslow and Rogers roads. Milestone Contractors will complete resurfacing between East Allendale Drive and South Sare Road, update pavement markings and traffic signs, and improve drainage, including a rain garden near Xavier Court.

Changes to the roundabout will include geometry adjustments and expanded median islands to meet updated design standards and support safe passage, especially for students using the Jackson Creek Trail.

The City of Bloomington has allocated $1.34 million to the project, with up to 50% of funding expected from the Indiana Department of Transportation through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. The timeline may shift due to weather or other conditions. During the closure, drivers are advised to use Henderson Street, Hillside Drive/Moores Pike, and Sare Road as detours.

Rogers Family Park will remain open, although the parking lot off the roundabout will close. Alternative parking is available at Childs Elementary School and nearby parks. A multi-use path will remain open for pedestrians, including those unable to use stairs.

Temporary lane closures may occur, and drivers are urged to use caution in work zones. More information is available on the city’s engineering project webpage.
