
Chicago is grappling with a series of shootings that occurred overnight, with police reporting five people shot and two fatalities across different neighborhoods. Concern is growing as these incidents underline the surging violence that the city is facing.
One incident in Austin left a 35-year-old man dead, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Police arrived at the 1200 block of North Massasoit Avenue around 12:15 a.m. to find the victim with two gunshot wounds to the chest. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A gun was discovered at the scene, but no arrests have yet to be made.
On the same night, another shooting in the Austin neighborhood resulted in a 24-year-old man losing his life after an argument turned violent. As reported by FOX 32 Chicago, the verbal altercation preceded the fatal shooting on West Quincy Street. The unknown offender fled, and the victim later died at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Englewood saw a 15-year-old boy shot twice in the left thigh after another verbal altercation led to gunfire. "The victim was hit twice in the left thigh and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition," FOX 32 Chicago reported. Similarly, in Burnside, a 21-year-old male was shot in the leg and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center. The victim there was unable to provide details, and the case remains open.
Finally, North Lawndale was the scene where a 22-year-old woman was shot multiple times in the head while sitting in her car. She managed to get to Mt. Sinai Hospital and was initially reported to be in critical condition. "The offender then fled in an unknown direction," as detailed by FOX 32 Chicago. No suspects have been taken into custody in connection with any of the shootings as detectives continue to investigate these tragic events.
