Crawfordsville held a Memorial Day service yesterday that also marked the official dedication of the new Veterans Memorial Park. The event honored military personnel who lost their lives in service, with remarks from State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle), who emphasized the day as a time for solemn remembrance.
As per the Indiana House Republicans website, located on South Washington Street between American Legion Post 72 and the National Guard Armory, the park features historical military artifacts, including a 1969 Huey helicopter, an M110 howitzer, and a World War II-era Japanese anti-aircraft gun. These displays trace the development of military technology.
The park includes a granite memorial with a bronze soldier and flag display. Visitors can purchase commemorative bricks to engrave with veterans' names, providing a way to honor individual service members.
Local officials, veterans, and community members attended the dedication, which highlighted the park’s purpose as an educational and commemorative space.
