Tragedy struck in Lafayette last night as a domestic dispute call rapidly escalated to a fatal police shooting. FOX59 reports that the Lafayette Police Department responded to an incident at 9 p.m. in the 2800 block of Ravenwood Court, involving a man and a woman. The situation grew tense when, as officers stood inside the apartment allowing the woman and her son to safely exit, the man commenced shooting at them. In response to the imminent threat, officers fired back.
The site turned into an unforeseen scene of death, with the man being pronounced dead at the location, with no other person injured in the harrowing exchange. WTHR has not yet released the identity of the man involved in the shooting. A veil of somberness no doubt hangs over Ravenwood Court as officials continue investigating the night's events.
In a statement obtained by WRTV, officials reassured the community that no officers were injured and the woman and child involved were also unhurt. The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office is slated to release the deceased man's identity pending notification of next of kin.
