Fort Wayne Police Apprehend Woman After Standoff Involving a Machete at Plaza Drive Residence

Fort Wayne citizens were on edge Friday night when police responded to a disturbance at 3500 Plaza Dr., involving an armed individual. Officers arrived on the scene to find a chaotic situation unfolding that had prompted calls for help from the residents. The homeowner recounted to police that Bianca Hernandez, during an argument with her child's father, grabbed a machete and started to swing it at those present in the house, as reported by the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Following the altercation, all occupants were forced to exit and Hernandez reportedly locked herself inside the residence. Despite numerous attempts to reach Hernandez through loudspeakers and telephone communications, she refused to come out. Engaged in the standoff, a tactical team page was called in response to the woman barricaded inside.

The standoff drew a swift response from tactical units, which worked persistently to resolve the situation peacefully. However, all their repeated peaceful requests were met with the stubborn refusal of Hernandez to leave the security of her stronghold. Eventually, officers had no choice but to breach the front door to bring the situation to a close.

Once the entry was made, Hernandez decided to surrender and exited the home, as noted in the police statement. "Bianca, eventually then exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident," the Fort Wayne Police Department's official report reflects.
