Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating a "shots fired" situation that has led to a significant police presence in the near east side of Indianapolis. The focus of the investigation appears to be centered around the 600 block of Woodruff Place. The public has been advised via social media to avoid this area, with the conspicuous presence of law enforcement being reported since earlier today.
According to FOX59, the situation began around 6:30 a.m. when authorities received reports of a shooting. This incident has consequently prompted an ongoing search for two suspects. One is reportedly wearing a black hoodie paired with tan or gray pants, while the other suspect may be wearing a gray or white top with black pants. "Please continue to avoid the area and call 911 if you see anything suspicious or matching this description," IMPD shared in an update on social media.
Furthermore, due to the proximity of the incident, Arsenal Technical High School has adopted a precautionary lockdown, which has been confirmed by IMPD officials. WISH-TV reports this lockdown has been implemented to ensure students' safety as authorities continue to probe into the case. Traffic on several streets intersecting with 10th Street has also been selectively blocked by police, disrupting the normal flow of vehicles in the surrounding vicinity.
Moreover, there are reports of a man sustaining minor injuries in the shooting. IMPD spokesperson Tommy Thompson said that the victim "has been taken to a local hospital in 'good' condition." This detail emerged from a news conference referenced by WTHR. Thompson also stated that detectives believe this incident was possibly related to a vehicle theft, with both involved parties potentially having discharged firearms. Additionally, Harshman Middle School has joined Arsenal Tech in being placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure.
