
In a devastating turn of events in Indianapolis, a 5-year-old girl named Zara Arnold was pronounced dead after purportedly falling down the stairs in her home. According to FOX59, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene on the 200 block of N Lasalle Street shortly after 11 a.m. yesterday. They found the child unresponsive with injuries indicative of trauma. Despite officers performing lifesaving measures, the child was declared dead at the home.
As investigations began, IMPD detectives took Zara's father, 41-year-old Zachary Arnold, into custody. He now faces preliminary charges of child neglect of a dependent and murder. The father was arrested on the same day as the incident, as reported by the jail records, and his involvement in the case remains a point of inquiry. WISH-TV reported that detectives engaged with Zachary Arnold for questioning, following which the arrest was made.
IMPD's Chief of Police, Chris Bailey, expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy on social media, mentioning, "I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of 5-year-old Zara," and emphasizing that "No child should suffer such harm, especially in a place that should be safe: their home."
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office is expected to make the final decision on charges.
