In what could be described as a whimsical spin on motorsport, Carb Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is set to introduce a novel race featuring Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles. Dubbed the "Wienie 500," this event will see six of the iconic vehicles representing different regional hot dog favorites battling it out on the track this Friday. The race will be livestreamed at 2 p.m. via the FOX Sports app, ensuring fans nationwide can join in on the excitement, FOX59 reports.
Oscar Mayer aims to quickly establish the Wienie 500 as an annual spectacle, coinciding with the unofficial start of both summer and hot dog season. According to a statement obtained by FOX59, Kelsey Rice, brand communications director at Oscar Mayer, stated, "As a brand known for sparking smiles in disarmingly delightful ways, it's only fitting that we bring a race of epic proportions to the Speedway and celebrate a timeless tradition: delicious meats and a little friendly competition to kick off a summer of wieners."
Those looking to get in on the action can visit the DraftKings website to enter a free-to-play pool and predict winners of the inaugural Wienermobile race, with a chance to win a share of $10,000. "Racing and hot dog aficionados alike can enter a free pool for a chance to win a share of $10,000," notes WISH-TV. The partnership with DraftKings and Oscar Mayer also underscores the latter's new status as the 'Official Hot Dog' of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indy 500.
The competing Wienermobiles will each carry the theme of a regional dog variety, from the Chi Dog (Midwest) to the Seattle Dog (Northwest), representing the diverse hot dog tastes across the country. At the finish line, the winning mobile will get to enjoy not only the glory of victory but also a trophy presentation in the "Wiener's Circle," complete with a mustard spray celebration, as reported by IndyStar. This year's race marks over a decade since all six Wienermobiles have been in the same location, making it an event not to be missed for fans of the Oscar Mayer brand and racing alike.
Fans can easily catch the Wienie 500 event live on Friday by streaming through the FOX Sports app, ditching their usual sports gear for aprons and bun holders. As summer approaches, this race adds a light-hearted, albeit competitive, layer of entertainment to the traditional Indianapolis 500 celebrations.
