Residents of the Oaklandon neighborhood in Lawrence may have noticed the sound of heavy machinery this week as the City of Lawrence Department of Public Works began its milling and paving operations. According to a press release from the City of Lawrence's official website, the projects started off on streets like Paradise Ln, Paradise Ct, Paradise Dr, and Broadway St this past Monday.
The DPW's schedule is set to continue with River Oaks @ Geist Subdivision next, slated to start tomorrow and aiming to wrap up by next Monday. In order to smoothly execute these projects, city officials are urging locals to move their vehicles off the streets during the paving days. The City of Lawrence stated, "Please move all vehicles off the roadway on your scheduled paving day(s) to help crews work efficiently and safely."
Following River Oaks, the paving crews will move onto 53rd St, Normal Dr, Longworth Pl next Monday and Tuesday. On the same dates, East Hill Dr, 52nd St/Boy Scout Rd are also scheduled for work. The swift progress of these maintenance efforts are a clear sign of the city's commitment to ensuring improved road conditions for its inhabitants.
The final area before the crews take a breather will be Hess Ave, with work expected to be completed on May 21. However, city officials have been quick to remind everyone that this entire schedule is dependent on good weather and might be subject to unavoidable changes. In the words of the City of Lawrence's announcement, "All work is weather-dependent and subject to change."
