Heads up, Lawrence residents, it's time to shuffle your vehicles and brace for a bit of construction-induced inconvenience. Starting this Monday, the city is kicking off a series of street improvements that'll see milling and paving work unfold on several streets over the next couple of weeks. This venture is meant to refresh the pavement and, ultimately, make for smoother commutes and an enhanced neighborhood appearance.
In an announcement posted on the City of Lawrence's official website, local authorities listed the streets slated for work. They're starting with Paradise Ln, Paradise Ct, Paradise Dr, and Broadway St on May 12, then moving on to River Oaks @ Geist Subdivision from May 14–19, and winding up with 53rd St, Normal Dr, Longworth Pl, and East Hill Dr along with 52nd St/Boy Scout Rd from May 19–20. Followed by, Hess Ave on May 21.
For residents on these streets, the city requests that all vehicles be moved off the roadway on the scheduled paving day(s). The city underscores that cooperation from the community will aid the crews to efficiently and safely complete their work. As is customary with these undertakings, the schedule remains at the mercy of the weather, so delays could happen if Mother Nature decides to be uncooperative.
The City of Lawrence has expressed gratitude for residents' patience and support through the construction process. "Thank you for your patience and support as we improve our streets!" the announcement read, underscoring the sentiment of a community enduring change for the greater good. With a few detours and some extra steps to your car, this may be a good time for locals to spot some new angles of their neighborhood – all while dreaming of the pot-hole-free drives in the near future.
