
An unidentified man was struck and killed by a CSX freight train earlier this morning in South Nashville, an incident confirmed by the Nashville Police Department. The tragic event took place on the tracks behind the 5200 block of Hickory Hollow Parkway, as reported by Nashville's official government website.
According to the preliminary investigation, two engineers operating the train observed the man standing stationary on the tracks when they rounded a curve and despite their efforts, the repeated blaring of the horn did not prompt him to move, they were unable to prevent the collision due to the train's momentum the brakes were engaged but stopping such a massive vehicle so quickly proved impossible. The Nashville government website revealed that the engineers spotted the man from a distance but were unable to halt the train in time, which led to his death at the scene.
The identity of the man is still unknown; the Medical Examiner's Office has teamed up with police authorities to investigate further into this matter. The ongoing investigation intends to shed light on both the man's identity and the circumstances surrounding his presence on the railway tracks that unwelcoming morning.
