
Richmond Police Department has reported a significant development in an ongoing sexual battery case, resulting in an arrest. On Tuesday, May 6, law enforcement authorities requested the assistance of locals to identify a male subject caught on security camera footage related to the investigation. The public's response to this call-to-action was swift and instrumental, leading to the positive identification of 31-year-old Joseph McCalister as the individual in question.
Further progress in the case was made on Wednesday, when deputies from the Wayne County Indiana Sheriff's Office apprehended McCalister. According to a social media post from the Richmond Police Department, they took him into custody on a active warrant for Sexual Battery, a Level 6 Felony, in the 1800 block of South J Street. He was subsequently booked into the Wayne County Jail. The arrest emerged out of concerted efforts by Richmond Police Department’s 1st Shift Patrol Division and the Investigative Services Division.
Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly made a resolute statement in light of these events, saying “Predators don’t get a pass in Richmond. If you victimize someone, we will identify you, track you down, and put you behind bars. Our officers don’t wait for justice—they go out and get it. That’s exactly what happened here, and I couldn’t be prouder of the work done on this case.” the Richmond Police Department expressed their gratitude through their official channels, stating, “Thank you to everyone who stepped up.
