A tragic event unfolded on a Tennessee highway over the weekend, leading to the death of a teenage driver. The incident occurred on the busy stretch of I-40 West near Spence Lane in Nashville, where 17-year-old Chance Lee Kimbro's life came to a sudden end. Details from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department reveal that Kimbro was behind the wheel of a 2015 Ford Fusion that crashed into a semi-trailer and was subsequently struck by another vehicle.
The collision, which happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, involved multiple vehicles. After Kimbro hit the semi, his vehicle spun several times before he was ejected onto the roadway. Shortly afterward, he was hit by a third vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries. Complicating the scene, an unidentified passenger from Kimbro's car fled before authorities arrived, having earlier tried, and failed to secure a ride from another motorist at the scene. Adding a twist to the story, the Fusion Kimbro was driving had been reported stolen just a few hours before the accident, taken from an apartment complex located at 6001 Old Hickory Boulevard.
Witnesses say Kimbro had been driving erratically at high speeds and switching lanes repeatedly before the crash occurred. Despite the catastrophic outcome of the event, initial findings indicated there was no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement, which often serve as common factors in similar incidents.
