The Veridus Group is injecting significant capital into a piece of Lawrence's history with a $1 million investment to revamp 5649 Lee Road. The building, a historic gem in Fort Ben, is set to become the new headquarters for Veridus while simultaneously offering office spaces for two additional enterprises. This strategic move is expected to expand the company's workforce from a modest 9 to over 30 employees, indicating an economic uptick for the local community.
During a recent visit, Mayor Deb Whitfield caught a glimpse of the transformation in progress. "Seeing firsthand how this project blends historic preservation with modern innovation," Whitfield recounted, according to the City of Lawrence's official announcement. The synergy of old and new is a focal point for the renovation, aiming to breathe new life into the region while respecting its heritage.
The redevelopment of such a storied building into a bustling business headquarters symbolizes Lawrence's broader ambitions—a city seeking to stake a claim in the present while honoring its past. With the additional two companies set to share the space, Lee Road could see an increase in both commerce and local traffic, potentially spurring further revitalization in the area.
Veridus Group's substantial employment growth accompanying the renovation is a telling sign of the times. The initiative reflects a burgeoning corporate confidence in Lawrence's economic landscape, poised to have a ripple effect through the community.
