Composting just got more affordable for eco-conscious residents in Wake County, thanks to the Solid Waste Division's partnership with BrandBuilders. This month, backyard composting enthusiasts can purchase Earth Machines at a 50% discount, bringing the price down to $54.95, according to the county's official website. Online orders are accepted through the end of the month, but compost bins are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
According to the Wake County news release, the Earth Machine sale is more than a transaction; it's a statement by the community in the face of environmental challenges. "Composting is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to help the environment—it cuts down landfill waste, reduces pollution and gives new life to natural resources," said Wake County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings. The sale is poised to play a significant role in mitigating local pollution, with the average household able to divert roughly 500 pounds of organic waste annually from the South Wake Landfill.
Pickups for Earth Machine compost bins will begin in mid-June at the North Wake Solid Waste Management facilities, located at 9025 Deponie Drive in Raleigh. Customers must arrange their own pickup, available Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
In addition to the bins, Wake County provides a 20-page composting handbook, instructional videos, and a digital guide to support residents in starting or improving their composting practices. More details, including how to order a bin and learn about composting benefits, are available at wake.gov/compost.
