In a somber development stemming from a recent outbreak of violence, Fort Wayne Police have reported a fatal shooting at Tillman Park. The incident, which took place late on Monday, claimed the life of a 20-year-old man, Eriyn White, and left another male critically wounded. The violence erupted in the 7500 block of S. Hanna Street, a spot now etched with the grim narrative of this city's struggle with gun-related crimes.
In the aftermath of the shooting, officers arrived on the scene to find White deceased and the second victim clinging to life, subsequently transported to a trauma center in critical condition. Fort Wayne's Homicide Unit descended upon the scene, embarking on a criminal investigation that swiftly led to a suspect. On Wednesday, authorities detained a 17-year-old male, in connection with White's death, the arrest occurring without incident in the 200 block of E. Rudisill Blvd. The juvenile currently faces charges of murder and unlawful carrying of a handgun, stemming from a prior conviction, his youth stark against the weight of the allegations.
According to a press release from the Fort Wayne Police Department, the juvenile suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed due to his age, has been preliminarily charged with the grave offenses. He is being held at the Allen County Justice Center as the legal process unfolds.
