A shocking incident unfolded in Richmond, Indiana, where a juvenile was hospitalized following a shooting yesterday afternoon. According to a report by FOX59, Wayne County Emergency Communications was alerted about a juvenile shot under a bridge at North 17th Street and Maple Drive at approximately 4:17 p.m. Responding swiftly, Richmond Police Department alongside Richmond Fire Department personnel rushed to the scene, venturing into the water's current to reach and aid the injured juvenile.
The firefighting team carried the victim across the water to safety, where they were transported to Reid Hospital for initial treatment, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the young victim and their loved ones," Rochester Chief of Police Kyle Weatherly expressed the community's distress over the event in a statement obtained by WTHR. The victim was later moved to another facility for advanced care, indicating the severity, of the injuries sustained.
The situation escalated when a suspect, also a juvenile, was identified and later detained. As noted by WISH-TV, after gathering evidence and conducting interviews, detectives took the suspect into custody at an unrelated location. The involved parties were promptly engaged, with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and Wayne County Juvenile Probation Office being consulted pre-detainment of the suspect.
