A chaotic incident in East Nashville led to two first responders being injured after a combative man accelerated his vehicle. The Nashville Fire Department encountered Anthony Maynard, Jr., 44, and an unresponsive female passenger when they responded to a call on Fatherland Street at about 1 p.m. Saturday, as reported by WSMV.
Upon the arrival of the first responders, Maynard became aggressive, resulting in the injury of two medics when he suddenly drove off, Police said the vehicle was later found at the intersection of Marina and Myrtle Streets where Maynard and the passenger were discovered unconscious inside officials were able to administer Narcan to the female passenger who did recover, according to FOX 17.
Maynard, who does not recall the events due to narcotics use, as he informed the police, is charged with aggravated assault against a first responder, DUI, resisting arrest, and was found driving on a suspended license, this information coming to a WKRN report. The medics were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and Maynard remains in jail with a bond set at $45,500.
In this disheartening narrative authorities also mentioned that while one paramedic attended to Maynard, the other went to assist the female passenger that's when the altercation leading to their injuries occurred and when police finally caught up to the parked vehicle, Maynard became combative once again but was eventually detained, and the responders who wished only to render aid were left to nurse their wounds, the sequence of events as chronicled by WSMV.
