An off-duty Carmel Police officer's vigilance is being credited for the arrest of three individuals connected to a spate of retail thefts in Central Indiana. According to a Facebook post by the Carmel Police Department, the incident unfolded on May 2, when the officer noticed suspicious behavior that led to a swift response and subsequent detentions.
The details were sparse but pointed, one individual was caught with stolen goods and attempted a quick getaway on foot, only to be chased down by officers. A sniffer dog also played its part, uncovering further evidence in the vehicle related to thefts reported earlier in the day. The arrested have been identified as Randolhf Arraste, Yasmel Arteaga Benitez, and Axel Reyes Quintero.
Charges against the trio range from Organized Theft to Theft, with Quintero facing an additional Resisting Law Enforcement count. "All three suspects were transported to the Hamilton County Jail," the police department stated, adding that the final decision on charges would be made by the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office.
The Carmel Police concluded their social media update by attributing the success of the operation to the off-duty officer's initiative and alertness, and the professional teamwork displayed by the responding officers. Thus,” This successful outcome was made possible by the awareness and quick action of an off-duty officer, supported by the professionalism and teamwork of CPD officers,” as the #CarmelPD hashtag circulated within their community update.
