Community pillars in House District 31 are receiving due recognition, thanks to State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves and her newly inaugurated Heart of 31 Award. The award honors dedicated individuals who exemplify extraordinary service and commitment to the well-being of others in their community. According to an announcement on the Indiana House Republicans' Facebook page, the first accolades have found their worthy recipients in Michael Moffitt and Kelly Monahan.
The initiative by Goss-Reaves shines a spotlight on local luminaries who silently fuel the heartbeat of the district. Michael Moffitt of Grant County, one of the distinguished recipients, is lauded for his years of impactful leadership in both higher education and the corporate world. His community engagement extends deep roots, driven by a profound love for his kin and neighbors. Moffitt is celebrated for imbuing his professional and voluntary endeavors with generosity and a clear sense of purpose.
Award cohort, Air Force veteran Kelly Monahan is another stand-out from Grant County, also hailed for her service-minded spirit. Monahan's post-service life has been dedicated to substantial community work, including playing a pivotal role as the board president of The Training Center. Additionally, she is known for her active involvement with numerous charitable organizations such as the United Way of Grant County, the Salvation Army Angel Tree, and the Greater Grant County Chamber of Commerce.
Recognition, such as the Heart of 31 Award, not only acknowledges the commendable work of people like Moffitt and Monahan but also aims to stimulate a spirit of benevolence within the community. The deeds of these individuals speak to a deeper narrative of civic engagement and social responsibility—a narrative that is often overshadowed by the clamor of broader societal issues, yet remains essential to the fabric of local life. As the district sets an example by awarding its altruistic champions.
