Indianapolis gets one more easy summer day before the heat turns up: Saturday starts clear and around 64 degrees, then warms into mostly sunny skies with a high near 85. Rain is not expected, and light east-southeast winds around 3 mph should keep outdoor plans pleasantly uncomplicated.
Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 66, while temperatures may rise slightly overnight. The National Weather Service Indianapolis says warmer, more humid air arrives Sunday and persists through much of next week; no watches, warnings or advisories are currently posted.
Heat Builds Through Wednesday
Sunday should reach 89 under mostly sunny skies, followed by 92 Monday and 95 Tuesday. Wednesday is also expected to top out near 95, with southwest winds occasionally gusting to 18 mph Monday and Wednesday.
Storm Chances Return Late Week
The dry stretch may break Thursday, when there is a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 92. Friday stays warm near 90 with another 30% chance of rain, while overnight lows remain in the low to mid-70s.
Saturday and early Sunday offer the best window for strenuous outdoor activity before the midweek heat settles in. By Tuesday and Wednesday, residents should take breaks, drink water and limit prolonged time in the afternoon sun, especially children, older adults and anyone working outdoors.
