In a pair of unsettling incidents occurring on the same day, two separate accidents have left a 14-year-old girl hospitalized in Utah. The first, as reported by KUTV, occurred during an Eagle Mountain parade when the girl's foot was accidentally run over by a vehicle operated by a family member. The teenager had been accompanying the vehicle on foot when the accident happened.
The girl was quickly taken to a hospital following the incident at the parade. Details about her condition have yet to be fully disclosed, but the notion of injury in such an intimate setting as a family gathering gives to pause and calls for caution even amid celebration. A seemingly safe environment, like a parade, can hastily turn hazardous if attention is momentarily diverted.
Later that evening, tragedy struck again as the same girl was hit by a car outside a dance at Lehi rodeo grounds. According to KSL, she suffered significant head trauma and was initially attended to by local medical services before being flown to a Salt Lake City hospital. According to Lehi City's statement obtained by KSL, the girl appears to have been crossing the street on her own, outside of a designated crosswalk, when the accident occurred.
The Lehi Police Department has expressed its concern, with Officer Colqui stating, "The thoughts and prayers of our department are with the patient, her family, and others affected by this incident." Both accidents remain under investigation, and in the case of the Lehi incident, Lehi police have still to determine the speed at which the car was travelling when it struck the girl. A resident familiar with the area, Barney, as per FOX13, highlighted the dangers of the road, stressing the need for drivers "to slow down and pay attention to what’s going on" around such events. No charges have been made about the accident at the rodeo grounds.
