A tragic incident unfolded this past Saturday at Causey Reservoir, where a 23-year-old man was found deceased after an apparent drowning. The Weber County Sheriff's Office told KUTV that they started to receive 911 calls and texts around 2:30 p.m., reporting that a man had not resurfaced after cliff jumping into the reservoir.
The search operation included teams from the Weber Fire District and the sheriff's office, complemented by an air med and dive team. The initial jump saw the man briefly reappear above water only to quickly submerge again and fail to resurface, leading to concerns that he had drowned. Efforts to swiftly locate the man were stymied by the challenging nature of the search in the vast waters of the reservoir.
According to KSLTV, Lt. Sean Endsley from the sheriff's office reported that after a tireless multi-hour search, the man’s body was finally discovered by a dive team around 9:10 p.m. Upon recovery, the body was sent to a medical examiner to confirm the cause of death. As of now, the identity of the man has been withheld until next of kin can be notified.
During the search, the entrances to Causey Reservoir were temporarily closed off, and traffic was redirected away from the area. Details about the circumstances leading to the incident remain sparse, but it is believed the man was partaking in cliff jumping, a popular but occasionally perilous activity at the reservoir, as reported by FOX13.
