A string of automotive break-ins and an armed robbery have residents on high alert in several Chicago neighborhoods, according to the Chicago Police Department. The incidents, reported in the Printer's Row, South Loop, and Motor Row District neighborhoods within the 1st (Central) District, involved culprits breaking into parked vehicles and, in one case, robbing victims at gunpoint as they approached their car.

The community alert issued by the police department details that offenders targeted unoccupied vehicles parked in residential or public parking garages, smashing windows to access interiors, and swiping belongings. These incidents occurred in a concentrated timeframe and proximity, with reports coming from the 800 blocks of S. Wabash, the 700 block of S. Wabash, the 600 block of S. State, the 400 block of S. Clark, and the 300 block of E. Cullerton, all taking place last Sunday morning.

Descriptions of the offenders have been provided: One is an African American male between 5'6" and 6'0" tall, weighing 140-180 lbs, wearing a black T-shirt, black jeans, and a black ski mask. The second suspect is similarly described as an African American male, standing 5'8" to 6'0", but weighing 140-160 lbs, and was seen in a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and a black ski mask. They are believed to have fled in a grey Lexus or Mercedes Benz sedan without a license plate in several instances.

In response to the incidents, authorities are advising residents to take precautionary measures; these include parking in well-lit areas, concealing valuables, installing anti-theft systems, and maintaining awareness of surroundings. Residents, especially those in the affected areas, have been asked to look out for each other's property. The police also emphasize the importance of not chasing after assailants but instead taking note of any distinctive features they may have and promptly contacting law enforcement with this information.
