Chicago's streets are set to see an increased police presence this weekend as the Chicago Police Department rolls out a DUI Saturation Patrol in the 20th (Lincoln) District. The enforcement surge, kicking off Friday, July 11, from 6 p.m. and extending through to the early hours of Saturday at 2 a.m., aims to curb impaired driving and promote road safety.

During this period, roving officers will blanket the area, on the lookout for any signs of driving under the influence. Not limited only to alcohol impairment, the patrol will stretch its supervision to cover speed-related and seat belt violations, positioned to catch those who think speed limits are more suggestions than law. According to a statement from the Chicago Police Department, specially equipped police vehicles will be utilized in nabbing speeding offenders.

Further contributing to the effectiveness of this weekend’s safety measures, the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit is also expected to be present. As reported by the Chicago Police Department, this unit is designed to streamline the process of charging individuals with a DUI by expediting on-site testing, potentially before an alleged offender makes their way to a local lockup.

In addition to offense processing, these mobile units carry the facilities to issue Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds) on the spot, further reducing the time between apprehension and processing. This inclusion hints at an emphasis not only on the swift capture of the transgressing drivers but also an eye toward expediting the administrative side of the law enforcement process.
