A fatal crash occurred on Butler Road in Fort Wayne when a driver lost control of their vehicle and struck a tree. The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) and first responders arrived at the 2300 block of Butler Rd where they found the vehicle ablaze. According to a release on the official City of Fort Wayne website, a Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control Officer who was first on the scene helped extinguish the fire. The officers from FWPD used fire extinguishers to further battle the flames.
The driver, an adult male, remained trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by the Fort Wayne Fire Department. Once freed, he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The fatal accident crash team (FACT) of the FWPD, alongside. the Air Support Unit, is investigating the scene to document evidence, and as a result, Butler Rd remains closed. The release suggested that speed and the damp conditions of the road, likely due to recent rainfall, might have been contributing factors to the crash.
As the FWPD FACT unit continues its investigation in partnership with the Allen County Coroner’s Office, they have yet to release identities or a definitive cause of death. The official statement, which described the tragic event and the immediate response by the authorities, highlighted the ongoing efforts to piece together the circumstances leading up to the accident.
