A fatal collision occurred yesterday afternoon on Interstate 70 in downtown Indianapolis, claiming the life of a semi driver. The incident took place around 4:45 p.m. near mile marker 83, as the semi was heading westbound toward the North Split, where I-70 meets I-65. According to FOX59, Indiana State Police reported that the crash ensued after a vehicle ostensibly changed lanes abruptly in front of the semi, causing the driver to brake sharply.
The semi, which was hauling a flatbed trailer loaded with plywood, lost its cargo in the process, with the sheets striking the back of the semi-tractor. The aftermath was immediate and tragic: the driver of the semi was declared dead at the scene. Distressingly, this accident led to the shutdown of all lanes on this stretch of the highway for over an hour, as noted by WIBC.
Further insights from WTHR revealed that no serious injuries were reported for the occupants of the passenger vehicle involved in the incident. Indiana State Police are investigating the crash and considering whether the sudden lane change by the other vehicle contributed to the tragic outcome.
