An armed carjacking attempt on Wilkins Street, in Indianapolis, was disrupted after the culprits were unable to start the vehicle. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) revealed that officers from their Southwest District responded to the 2200 block of Wilkins Street on the evening of Tuesday following a report of the attempted carjacking. The suspects, three of whom are juveniles and one identified as 18-year-old Jack Carcamo, were apprehended shortly after the attempted crime.

According to a social media post from IMPD News, an officer spotted four males fitting the suspects' descriptions just after the attempted carjacking took place. The individuals were all wearing facemasks and were allegedly armed with an handgun when they tried to steal the vehicle. Upon attempted to approach the group, the suspects fled on foot but were quickly detained with the help of an IMPD K9 unit and perimeter containment by officers.

Further investigation tied the suspects to a vehicle found near the scene with a broken window, which was reported just minutes before the carjacking incident. The vehicle was verified as stolen from Wisconsin and has since been recovered and towed. The suspects, now in custody, are facing preliminary charges of robbery and resisting law enforcement, based on the recovery of a firearm and face mask during a search in the vicinity of the reported incidents.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO) is set to make final charging decisions following the arrests. IMPD reiterated the principle of the justice system, reminding the public that an arrest is merely an accusation and "the individuals arrested should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law," as stated in their social media update. The case is being documented under IP250056775.
