Hamilton County is making a direct investment in the futures of its youth, doling out scholarships to six standout high school seniors to aid their educational endeavors at Ivy Tech Community College. It's part of a push by the county to reinforce its commitment to higher education accessibility, and it's a collaborative effort with Youth Assistance Programs throughout the county. Each student has been awarded $2,500 - not an insubstantial sum when it comes to the mounting costs of textbooks, courses, and the myriad other expenses that string along the path to a degree.
The scholarship winners hail from various corners of Hamilton County and represent their respective Youth Assistance Programs. The selected students are Anna Hesser of the Carmel Youth Assistance Program, Kenzee Boezeman from Fishers, Cheyenne Boggs from Hamilton Heights, Shaylyn Turner of Noblesville, Ava Netherton representing Sheridan, and Henry Janak from Westfield. Their scholarships are a nod to academic achievement and civic involvement, a bet by the County Council that these young minds are worth investing in and have the potential to pay forward the county's investment manifold in terms of future community impact.
Councilor Steve Nation, lauded as the founding father of the Hamilton County Youth Assistance Program, underscored the initiative's significance. "Supporting our youth is one of the best investments we can make," he told the Hamilton County government news release. Nation's history as a prosecutor and judge lends authority to his recognition that early support for youth can steer towards prosperous futures and away from the pitfalls and alleyways that lead to his former professional doorstep.
County Councilor Brad Beaver echoed Nation's sentiments, highlighting the partnership with Ivy Tech as a foundational element to the accessibility and affordability of education in the area. "We want every student in Hamilton County to have the opportunity to succeed," Beaver stated, according to the Hamilton County government's announcement.
