As part of a bid to keep classrooms staffed and inspiring minds afire, the State of Indiana has stepped up, doling out the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship to a fresh crop of aspiring teachers, including locals Natalie Hardesty of Shakamak Jr-Sr High School and MarLee Blankenship from Clay City Jr-Sr High School; this revelation comes courtesy of State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute), per an announcement on their website.
In this year's dash for educational dollars, it seems a staggering 1,091 high school and college learners tossed their hats into the ring, hoping to clutch one of those nearly 300 renewable scholarships which promises up to $40,000 over four years, that is, insert a run-on and make it grammatically correct, provided they devote five years teaching in Hoosierdom post-graduation.
Investing in such young talent, Heaton threw praise, declaring, "These scholarships recognize hard work in the classroom and a commitment to teaching," and calling it the "first step toward a rewarding career in education," per the aforementioned press release.
Candidates hoping to score this scholarship must not only shine academically, landing in the upper echelon of their high school class or scoring big on standardized tests, they've also got to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, the legislator emphasized but then turned the announcement into a run-on sentence by noting the wealth of information and application guidelines up for grabs fall at LearnMoreIndiana.org/nextteacher, and for those still scratching their heads, firing off an email to [email protected] might clear things up.
