Indianapolis drivers, take note: the city is gearing up for a big sports weekend, and that means you're going to need to factor in some added travel time if you're heading downtown. The WNBA All-Star Weekend, set to take place today through Sunday is the cause for several road closures throughout Indianapolis, as posted by IMPD News on their official social media account.
For those trying to navigate the hustle, full closures will begin impacting traffic as early as today starting from 8 AM and persisting till 6 PM daily through Sunday. Notable streets include Georgia Street, McCrae Street, Sciota Street, and parts of Monument Circle—specifically, the south half and northeast quadrant, which will be fully closed on Saturday morning.
Further disruptions are to be expected on Friday and Saturday evenings, where additional street closures will come into effect from 4 PM until 11 PM. These will particularly affect Delaware Street, running from South Street to Maryland Street, and are likely to result in heavier-than-normal traffic in the periphery of the event zone.
The aim of the closures is to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the festivities, which promise to draw substantial crowds. Indy residents and visitors alike are encouraged to plan their routes ahead of time, to possibly use alternative transportation modes, and to patiently navigate the detours. "Please drive carefully, respect detours, and enjoy the weekend safely," urges the IMPD News post, highlighting the importance of safety amidst the excitement of the WNBA All-Star celebrations.
