Homestead police have been urgently searching for 36-year-old Ruddy Martin Torrez, who was reported missing and in danger over the weekend. In a call for public assistance yesterday, the Homestead Police Department said Torrez was last spotted driving a 2009 red Toyota Yaris with a North Carolina license plate, KDF6008. According to a report by Local 10, authorities noted that Torrez had ceased taking his medication, though his specific health condition was not disclosed, raising concerns that he may pose a risk to himself.
Providing further details, Homestead police described Torrez as about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with a thin build, short black hair, and brown eyes. For his last seen attire, he was reported to be wearing a green shirt, brown pants, and black shoes. In a testament to the urgency of the situation, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was moved to issue a Purple Alert to aid in locating the endangered man.
Fortunately, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday that deputies had successfully located Torrez, alongside his vehicle. In an update shared by WSVN, it was revealed that Torrez had been Baker Acted, legislation that allows for involuntary examination, which can be initiated by judges, law enforcement officials, doctors, or mental health professionals.
The circumstances surrounding Torrez's disappearance and the state of his well-being prior to being found remain mostly unclear. Concerned citizens with any further information on similar cases are urged to promptly contact the Homestead Police Department at 305-247-1535 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
