A motorcyclist has been pronounced dead following a collision with a car in Monroe County yesterday evening. The accident took place at the intersection of West State Road 45 and Airport Road at approximately 6 p.m., as reported by FOX59.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene to find a 24-year-old motorcyclist, Hunter Warthan from Bedford, with fatal injuries after what was determined to be a major traffic crash involving Warthan's Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Chevrolet Cruze driven by Victoria Lewis, a 19-year-old from Spencer, Indiana; the intersection was subsequently shut down for several hours for a thorough investigation and cleanup, according to details from WTHR.
Deputies investigating the crash have not released further information on the cause but confirmed to WISH-TV that the road closure lasted from the time of the crash at 6:08 p.m. until late into the evening, reopening only after crash reconstructionists completed their initial analysis at the scene.
Investigators are still piecing together the circumstances that led up to the fatal accident that night which claimed the life of a young individual whose journey ended far too abruptly on the asphalt of that Bloomington intersection.
