A second man with ties to a known antisemitic organization, the Goyim Defense League (GDL), will soon face a Tennessee courtroom on charges of civil rights intimidation and assault. Louis Edward Dunn, a 43-year-old GDL associate, is currently being held in the Maricopa County Jail in Phoenix, Arizona, as reported by the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department. According to official statements, Dunn's arrest last Sunday was executed by El Mirage Police at the behest of Nashville authorities, following his indictment.
The charges against Dunn stem from an incident in Nashville last July, where he and another GDL member, Ryan Scott McCann, were involved in an altercation with a Jewish man in his twenties. The investigation conducted by the MNPD's Specialized Investigations Division unveiled that the victim was provocatively taunted and assaulted during the encounter. "Nashville and our police department will not let stand hatred that translates into criminal conduct," Chief John Drake conveyed in a statement obtained by the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department.
Dunn's arrest follows the conviction of McCann, who at 30 years old, was found guilty of similar charges earlier this year. With his sentencing on hold, McCann currently remains in custody. The indictment and subsequent legal proceedings demonstrate a zero-tolerance stance by Nashville authorities toward hate-based violence and intimidation.
Details of the encounter emerge from a confrontation that took place on the night of July 13, 2024, in a parking lot on 10th Avenue South. The GDL members are said to have aggressively approached the 20-year-old man who was standing beside a vehicle. McCann attempted to land a spinning elbow strike towards the victim's head, leading the young man to attempt an escape. But while trying to get away, Dunn allegedly grabbed him forcefully, pinning him against a truck as McCann continued to give chase. The victim later recounted being hit in the neck and legs. This harrowing account was part of the evidence leading to Dunn's indictment. The MNPD has expressed gratitude toward the diligence of the Specialized Investigations Division in addressing the GDL's actions.
