The Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis is once again the focal point for Gen Con, the mother of all tabletop gaming conventions. Kicking off on Thursday, July 31 and wrapping up on Sunday, Aug. 3, this year's Gen Con has sold out, with more than 70,000 attendees expected to indulge in an array of gaming activities. From cosplaying to gaming sessions, the convention's offerings are a testament to its sprawling impact on the gaming community.
As the largest annual convention in Indianapolis, Gen Con has drawn a similar size crowd to last year's record-breaking attendance of over 71,000, according to FOX59. In a statement obtained by WTHR, David Hoppe, president of Gen Con, expressed his excitement over the turnout, "We are absolutely thrilled to see record-breaking turnout, a loaded Exhibit Hall, and nearly 30,000 exciting events for our attendees in 2025."
While the convention is a mecca for tabletop and RPG enthusiasts, it also caters to fans of video, computer, and trading card games. This year's exhibit hall will be home to nearly 600 vendors, where festivalgoers can browse and shop for games, merchandise, art, books, and other related items. Organizers have also ensured that the fun spills onto South Street with the inclusion of an outdoor block party, featuring local food trucks catering to the public for the duration of the event.
For those still figuring out the logistics of their visit, parking may pose a slight challenge due to the concurrent Indiana State Fair. However, Indy Star reports that Gen Con's official parking partner, iPark, and several other facilities are available within walking distance of the convention center. Attendees who have purchased passes online can park adjacent to Lucas Oil Stadium—a move that's likely a smart one to avoid the stress of last-minute parking scrambles.
Apart from the main event, Gen Con's commitment to community and philanthropy remains strong, as seen through their partnerships with the Brown Toy Box Foundation and Women4Change Indiana. WTHR reported that proceeds from fundraising programs during the convention will be split between these organizations, further highlighting Gen Con's role in fostering a sense of community beyond the tabletop.
