Westfield SWAT Standoff Follows Brutal Beating of Teen Girl at Casey Acres

A SWAT team surrounded a Westfield apartment building before sunrise Friday after a 16-year-old girl was beaten so badly with a blunt object that she suffered severe head and facial injuries requiring emergency transport to an Indianapolis hospital. The girl's mother called 911 after she was confronted with a handgun while trying to intervene, and by the time tactical officers stormed the unit they believed the attackers were hiding in, the suspects were already gone.

Westfield police logged the incident as case number 2026-31689, dispatched around 3:41 a.m. Friday to the 1200 block of Ritchie Drive at the Casey Acres Apartments complex, according to the WIBC 93.1 FM report that first identified the suspects. The complex sits off Sabrina Way between Ditch Road and Casey Road, and officers responding to the disturbance found a girl's mother had been threatened with a gun after confronting the person accused of beating her daughter, per the Indianapolis Watch account of the attack.

Police identified the suspects as Markeyzus Dean and Tyanna Bonds and called in the Noblesville-Westfield Emergency Services Unit, a joint regional SWAT team staffed by officers from both Hamilton County cities. When tactical officers entered a nearby apartment believed to be sheltering the pair, they instead found an open second-story window with a torn screen — evidence, police believe, that Dean and Bonds had already escaped on foot before the perimeter was fully established, the report notes.

Suspect Was Already Wanted on Gun Charges

Dean was actively wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for gun charges out of neighboring Marion County at the time of the attack, according to Westfield police. Bonds was also believed to be armed during the encounter, though it remains unclear how the pair managed to evade officers once the tactical response was underway. Police reported no threat to the public during the search and later declared the scene clear.

Residents Told to Shelter as Search Unfolded

Westfield police issued an advisory to Casey Acres residents around 6:30 a.m. asking them to shelter indoors while the SWAT search continued, per WTHR-TV. Local schools were notified of the police activity but proceeded with their regular bus schedules, the station's report notes. The all-clear came later that morning once officers confirmed the suspects were no longer in the immediate area.

The Criminal Investigations Division is leading the ongoing search for Dean and Bonds under the direction of Investigations Captain Robert Dine, who has served with the department since 2006, Westfield police said. Tactical operations for the callout fell to the Noblesville-Westfield Emergency Services Unit, whose current patrol commander, Captain Mike Siara, spent 15 years on the unit before moving into that role.

Westfield recorded a violent crime rate of 42.0 per 100,000 residents based on 2024 FBI data, ranking it the 12th safest city in Indiana and far below the statewide violent crime average of 312.9 per 100,000, according to an analysis from OpenCrime. That backdrop makes a full SWAT deployment like Friday's especially notable for a suburban Hamilton County community where violent firearm incidents are uncommon.

Under Indiana law, battery resulting in moderate or serious bodily injury is charged as a Level 6 or Level 5 felony carrying sentences of six months to six years, while pointing a firearm at another person is itself a Level 6 felony, according to Harwell Criminal Defense. Aggravating factors, including the use of a deadly weapon, can push charges toward the more serious end of that range once suspects are apprehended.

The manhunt comes as Westfield police continue building a new $35 million, 11.7-acre headquarters on Grand Park Boulevard, Hoodline previously reported, part of a broader modernization effort as the city's population pushes past 60,000. The investigation into Friday's attack remains active, with the condition of the 16-year-old victim and the whereabouts of Dean and Bonds still unknown.
