Commuters in Utah faced significant delays on Interstate 80 after a semi crash in Parleys Canyon prompted lane closures, as reported by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) on its Facebook page. The incident, which occurred near Exit 131 west of East Canyon, initially reduced westbound traffic to a single lane, causing delays upwards of 45 minutes. UDOT's post alerted travelers to the situation at 5:34 pm, urging them to consider alternative routes such as Provo Canyon or I-84.
As the evening progressed, the situation on the ground shifted; by 5:49 pm, delays had surged past the one-hour mark, reflecting the growing backup as vehicles snaked through the constrained passageway of I-80. The UDOT took to social media to update the public on the traffic conditions, a sequence of posts that served as a digital marker of the unfolding inconvenience that gripped the artery of Utah's transportation network, tying those who relied on it into a collective moment of standstill.
Finally, in an update posted at 7:40 pm, UDOT announced the reopening of all lanes on westbound I-80 in Parleys Canyon, signaling a slow return to normalcy. "FINAL 7:40 pm: All lanes are now open. Heavy delays remain," according to UDOT on their official Facebook page. Despite the restoration of full traffic flow, the lingering effects of the crash meant travelers still faced substantial delays as the congestion gradually dissipated.
