
A 55-year-old man was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard near Elliott Key, Florida, after suffering a severe leg injury from a boat's propeller. The incident occurred yesterday, and the Coast Guard swiftly medevaced the injured man to the Boca Chita dock. From there, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took over, airlifting him to Jackson South Medical Center for more intense care, according to official reports.
Responding to the distress call around 5 p.m., Coast Guard Station Miami Beach and the Maritime Safety and Security Team members were quick to interrupt their training exercise to provide aid. They applied first aid and were able to successfully put a tourniquet in place. "The crew executed a flawless response to a case where seconds make the difference between life and death," Lt. Matthew Ross, Coast Guard Station Miami Beach commanding officer, said in a statement obtained by the Coast Guard News.
A small boat from the Coast Guard transported the man to Boca Chita dock, where the victim was further transferred to medical experts for the next phase of his emergency care.
