The Lake County Sheriff's Office has reported a significant drug bust following a meticulous operation by its Special Investigations Group (SIG), which is charged with grappling with the ceaseless scourge of narcotics trafficking in the region. A Beach Park woman, identified as Karla L. Rangel-Tirado, 30, has been arrested on multiple drug-related charges, the office said.
A months-long investigation into the local drug trade culminated with Rangel-Tirado's arrest, as undercover agents successfully carried out controlled cocaine purchases directly from the suspect. Notably, two of these drug transactions took place dangerously close to a middle school in Waukegan, a mere 500 feet away, demonstrating a brazen disregard for the sanctity of spaces designated for the nurturing of our youth. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, detectives took Rangel-Tirado into custody on August 11, 2025, during an uneventful traffic stop.
In the wake of the arrest, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has leveled a number of serious charges against Rangel-Tirado. These include two counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance within 500 feet of a school, classified as Class X felonies, and additional counts for the delivery and possession of a controlled substance. In this unyielding quest for justice, community safety remains the impetus driving law enforcement's concerted efforts.
Lake County Sheriff John D. Idleburg underscored the gravity of the charges, particularly the sale of cocaine near a school. "Selling cocaine near a school is especially egregious," Sheriff Idleburg said, "and I commend our detectives for their diligent work to keep our neighborhoods safe."
