
Nine months following a fatal traffic accident that claimed the life of a teenager, Belle Glade authorities have made an arrest. Daniel De La Cruz, 25, faces charges after the November incident involving a Mercedes C300 which ended in a canal, resulting in the death of Yoskarlin Leon, his passenger. Leon was mere days from his 20th birthday at the time of the crash, as reported by CBS12.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle was traveling west on County Road 880, east of Belle Glade, before it crossed into the opposite lane, and descended an embankment, before overturning into the canal. De La Cruz, who reportedly suffered minor injuries, is believed to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the wreck, the CBS12 article details.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personnel retrieved Leon from the canal, but he was pronounced dead on the scene. Hoodline reported that the retrieval and confirmation of the fatality occurred around 8:15 a.m. on the 29000 block of State Road 880. The same report noted the added gravity of the situation with the acknowledgement that drugs or alcohol may have been a factor, hinting at a preventable tragedy.
