Bloomington residents and visitors should prepare for a temporary road closure at the intersection of South College Avenue and West 2nd Street, due to sewer infrastructure improvements set to commence on August 3. As detailed in a recent release by the City of Bloomington, the work will be carried out in two distinct phases aimed at minimizing disturbance to the community.
The first phase of this project will require a full closure of the intersection from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the next morning. During this time, CBU crews will perform sewer main upgrades, with the aim of reopening the intersection in time for the morning commute. According to the city’s announcement, essential access to locations such as Kroger and Wendy’s will be maintained through an alternate route via S College Ave.
After the overnight work, the next phase is set to begin next Monday at 6 a.m., targeting West 2nd Street from the B-Line Trail to S College Ave. This phase is expected to be completed by August 15, weather permitting. If conditions remain favorable, both in terms of weather and logistics, West 2nd Street is scheduled to fully reopen by that same date.
Customers with questions or concerns about the interruption can contact the City of Bloomington Utilities at 812-349-3650 or visit their website for additional information.
