Community engagement took on a sporty twist as the Boone County Senior Services Olympics found some unexpected cheerleaders in the form of local law enforcement officials. According to a social media post from the Boone County Indiana Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Tony Harris, Chief Deputy Beard, and Major Stevenson made an appearance at the event to support the competitors.
For an event at WEBO that brought together the community's seasoned athletes, Harris and his team were there, helping with the softball throw as the "official distance judges." There were not just medals at stake but also the vital community bonds being strengthened, supported by Boone County Senior Services, Inc. Although the tasks seemed simple, Chief Deputy Beard and Major Stevenson, the participants' vigor was matched only by their focus in ensuring fair play and accurate scoring.
"The athletes gave it their all, and we were glad to be there to cheer them on," Sheriff Harris stated in the online update. Amidst the throws and cheers, Sheriff Harris transcended his official role to become a top-notch sideline motivator.
